A new constitution for the Westminster Society
Why propose an update to the Westminster Society’s constitution?
In the year 2000 Westminster College ceased to exist, so during that year The Westminster Society had to modify its constitution to reflect the changing situation.
The landscape has changed further still since then (in ways detailed below). And this year, 2021, after our bank had confused us with a charity which shares our name, painstaking work first by Roger Clift and then by David Gibbs, has got us to a point where we can have internet banking, but only if our constitution is updated with appropriate wording. Hence the initial need to update.
That then caused closer scrutiny of the whole constitution in the present landscape. The updated wording reflects how the Society is working or is needing to work from September 2021.

The Committee are grateful to Peter Relf and David GIbbs who led the project to update our year 2000 constitution, and to Sylvia Clift, Peter Steadman and Tom Dobson who reviewed the working documents at key stages.
