Our Westminster College Heritage - a project to record how Westminsterians have enlivened our world. led by Tom Dobson Collections and Digitisation Officer for the Oxford Centre for Methodism and Church History (OCMCH) at Harcourt Hill, where many paper records for Westminster College are archived. |
Why do it? Up till now, stories and photos of Westminster College alumni and staff have never been gathered together to celebrate Westminsterians' lifelong contributions to society. A significant college has nurtured valuable lives.
Why do it now? Records are now available on line and research can be done at home. Phone calls and emails also make it easy to share recollections and photos. Before it's too late, there are still enough Ws around to research, record and share.
The plan is for a record in print and online of Ws' stories and photos. By appreciating others' lives, we value afresh our own and acknowledge how Westminster College played a part.
We'll look at documents, listen to memories, think through our own story. We'll record our findings in 300-word max. articles (typed or written0 and in photos. Over the next 2-3 years, our results will appear in The Westminsterian magazine, publications and web-pages. In that time we'll:
find all we can
record all we can
share all we can
while we can.
Do you use family tree software like Ancestry, or enjoy whodunnits?
You'd enjoy researching and noting key points. Please help.
Are you comfortable on the phone?
You'd be good at talking about Ws no longer with us and jotting down notes. Please help.
Do you enjoy writing with pen or keyboard?
You'd find creating short biographies of interesting Ws really fascinating. Please help.
Please email: ourwestminstercollegeheritage@gmail.com
How about your own story?
Our Westminster College Heritage is rather like the TV programmes 'Who do you think you are' and 'Long Lost Family'.
The project also offers you the opportunity to devise your own version of a blue plaque.
After your name and dates at Westminster College, what would you put on yours - in up to 12 words?
Please email your blue plaque entry to ourwestminstercollegeheritage@gmail.com
